Feingold opted not to take ’soft money’ and still narrowly won reelection against a well-funded hard-right challenger.
The need to raise money for campaigns has subtly altered the nature of the Democratic Party everywhere in the
country. It’s been altered to a lesser extent here than in other states, but still to some extent it is occurring. And
that has troubled me for some time.
