Use and Value of Constitutent Email and Congressional Web Sites

An OMBWatch study on how congress responds to email. According to the NYT, the Senate’s getting a half-million pieces of email a day. The SMTP/Notes gateway is not able to keep up.

“For e-mail [sic] or any other form of communication, to be taken seriously, it should be both personalized (as opposed to a form letter) and from a constituent.”

“Although e-mail on policy matters does not rank high today in terms of how seriously members take it, it is likely to have a powerful role in the near future.”
