I hope this is an April Fool’s joke. A large software company in Washington State, generaly considered to hold near monopoly power in the OS market, has threatened the creators of the Web comic User Friendly with litigation because they parodied one of their products. This wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny if it went to trial in the US, but trials are beyond the budgets of most Web sites and User Friendly is a Canadian enterprise. I don’t know if Canadian libel laws are as nasty as those in England. There’s a site with banners you can run in support of User Friendly. Just make a lot of noise so the software company (whose founder has the same first name as I) will be forced to dropping the matter. (I’d say shame, but shame doesn’t function in market economies.)
