How to Read a Civil War Battlefield

A few years ago, I spent an awestruck afternoon driving through the National Battlefield Monument at Vicksburg, Mississippi. Every state who sent troops into the battle is represented with a monument somewhere on the field. A taped guide to the battlefield was helpful, but I wish I had read Ohio State Historian Mark Grimsley’s guide to understanding Civil War battlefields. Camworld recommended another part of Grimsley’s site, but the whole thing is a facinating read.
