Sanitary disposal for Galileo spacecraft
NASA’s contemplating putting Galileo into a one-way dive into Jupiter or Io when its extended mission is completed next year. Why? Even though the spacecraft has been baked in the hard radiation around Jupiter, there’s no guarantee that the spacecraft is completely sterile. And NASA doesn’t want terrestrial life crashing into Europa.
