Gender equity in SF Short Story Publishing

Several reviewers have commented on the derth of women included in the major ‘best-of’ SF anthologies, edited by Messrs. Doizos and Hartwell. One reason is that the number of women published in the major SF magazines relative to men has remained small. So the follow-on question is: how come more short fiction by women isn’t being published.
