A course in information systems design

Phil Agre’s posted the sylabus for a course on information systems design he’s teaching at UCLA this spring.

“We’re throwing out the tedious

industrial automation paradigm and instead using methods adapted from industrial design and architecture. We’re also getting rid of the historical focus on mainframes and desktop terminals and instead starting with Internet-based information services delivered through portable devices and spontaneous wireless networking. We’re not building anything just yet, and we’re assuming the technologies that we expect to be available in ten years.”

The course looks like a lot of work, but it also looks like it would be rewarding.
