Sending a hummingbird to a comet
[ via Click Feed ] I have a pair of hummingbird feeders on one of the balconies of my apartment. Throughout the day, they’ll dart in to feed on sugar water and leave in an eyeblink. That’s the strategy NASA proposes for sending a mission to sample a comet nucleus. A probe will dart into a well mapped zone, send a pair of leads down to measure and slice off bits, then back off to a safe orbit within a couple of seconds.
