Unwise Microwave Oven Experiments

[ via the Muted Horn ] Bill Beaty lists several interesting, but dangerous experiments to do with a microwave oven. It doesn’t get cold enough to do it out in the Bay Area, but if you’re in a climate where it gets good and cold as in the single digits, take your microwave on the porch. Use it to heat a mug of clean water for about five minutes. The water will be superheated past boiling. Carefuly remove the mug of water, and taking care that there’s no one in the line of fire, fling the water into the air. It will flash over to steam, then condense into a little snowstorm.
