Leigh Dodds summarizes an XML-DEV discussion about the usefulness of XSLT. I think several of the contributors have mistaken XSLT for an alternative to PHP/ASP/Embedded Perl. And miss the best use of XSLT: widgets in other languages that produce XML, and XSLT for presentation. The problems people have run into with having to process CDATA sections and the like are not a problem with XSLT, but a problem with systems producing XML. And that puts more constraints on the systems producing the data.
