An Exploding Leonid
One of the many amazing things we saw Saturday night during the peak of the 2001 Leonids shower was an exploding meteor that lit half the sky with its flash, and left a smudge of smoke in the sky which lasted a good minute or two. A camera recorded a similar explosion during the 1998 Leonid shower.
That was one of the coolest things I’ve witnessed.
