ESO releases new photos of the Horsehead Nebula in Orion

[ via /. ] Oh, just freaking beautiful. The European Southern Observatory released some recent imagery made of the Horsehead Nebula in Orion.

The clarity of the image is the result of new wide-field cameras. Even though the object is 1,400 light years distant, it’s large — so you trade size for detail when taking a photo.

Compare the ESO image with one taken from the Hubble Space Telescope.
