Sins of Petition: the Left and Cloning

[ via Boing Boing ] Rumours of broad-based opposition by the Left to cloning and stem cell research are just that. A piece in the NYT left the impression that the Left had aligned with an anti-abortion Republican senator’s bill to ban all research in the field. Several Lefties had signed a petition circulated by Jeremy Rifkin, but when confronted on the issue by scientists, and people affected by the ban, they publicly renounced the petition. But jeesh, Zinn, read the petition before you sign it…

I know of two pro-research petitions out there. The Franklin Society has one (token right) and Multiversity.org (token left). You can read both and sign both, either, or neither as you see fit.

Both petitions are to the point and I don’t think you’ll be considered either a member of the Fourth International, or the New World Order if you sign.
