Roger Costello posted an introduction to writing web services using the REST architecture. This spawned a long thread on the XML-Dev list with Paul Prescod defending and explaining REST to a long line of SOAP partisans.
The line of argument from the SOAP/XML Schema partisans is that REST is not sophisticated enough to handle the extreme use cases where data must be bound and gagged tighter than a submissive at a Power Exchange party. However, not every application requires bondage and discipline. Loose coupling is fine for many things, and REST is a great style to use in those instances.
Oh, and to my fellow citizens, happy Independence Day. I’m going up to the City to watch the Mime Troupe do political satire, an activity of which I think the Founders would approve.
