I am a fan of crazed Gypsy music, and go out of my way to hear groups like the Reptile Palace Orchestra and Kayla Flexer’s combo. So I was pleased to hear about Xenomusic, a site which sells MP3s of bands from all over Eastern Europe. The site’s founder says that while LA tries to sell Britney to every cowtown on the planet, Xenomusic goes to every cowtown on the planet and brings back their music. But Eastern European music isn’t static, they’ve been listening to the rest of the world and incorporating what they hear, so you get bands like Besh o droM, who incorporate funk, hip hop and electronica in their mix. This is great stuff. Xenomusic also has two albums by the Croatian surf band The Bambi Molesters, and that’s reverb to conjure with.
