Preventing Image Bandwidth Theft With .htaccess

[ via Heather Champ ] Heather has trouble with unclued people linking to images on her server. She found an article on using mod_rewrite to mitigate the problem. And one of her readers pointed to a web tool that’ll generate the mod_rewrite configuration to put in your httpd.conf or .htaccess files.

It’s not 100% fool-proof, since it depends on the referer sent in the request headers, still, I love mod_rewrite.

Last year I saw many hits on a photo of the meerkats at the SF zoo. It turns out that another site had linked to it as the subject of a caption contest. Go figure.

Oh, and rabbit, rabbit. Where’s my prize?
