It’s funny to see this come up again. Jorn Barger had been on a jeremiad against XML for semantic markup of text back in 1998.

Aside: Lawdy, lawdy, lawdy, I have spell checking in a textarea via Safari. My readers will like that. Of course it still won’t remind me that it’s Teresa and not Theresa Nielsen Hayden.
