The Annotated Mood at Davos

Bruce Sterling published an annotated version of Laurie Garrett’s now famous private email describing the world’s elites not being very festive at Davos.

Wee! We’ve gone from living in a Tom Clancy novel to a Bill Gibson novel. It’ll be slow progress, but next we’ll make our way through Stan Robinson’s Orange County Trilogy, and arrive at Le Guin’s Always Coming Home.

I’m disgusted with the flip reactions the MeFi crowd had for her. You don’t suppose the motivation for the rudeness was not that Garrett was upset, but that the letter provided more evidence of how the rest of the world doesn’t think that highly of the US.
