It’s the future as it might have been envisioned by Alfred Bester or Frederik Pohl, if they’d grown up as Southern California mallrats.
Note: I’m well aware that Mallrats was set in New Jersey, not SoCal, but “Kevin Smith meets Fred Pohl” reads better than “Ridgemount High meets Fred Pohl”.
