Manga Wins, Fandom(s) invade Pop Culture

Two reports from the precincts of Fandom:

  1. According to Bookscan figures, the top selling graphic novels (in units) of 2004 were Rurouni Kenshin and Fruits Basket, both manga in translation [ via Comics Reporter ].

Art Spiegelman’s In the Shadow of No Towers, a title listing for more than twice the cover price of the manga, was the tops in revenue.

  2. K Tempest Bradford reports on an episode of an animated cartoon revolving around a feud between fans of a thinly disguised Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter.

The kicker: one of the characters lamenting “I know that pain well. This is my fourth fandom.”
