I received an anonymous email about my last entry, where I managed to break Apache by saving a configuration file as UTF-8 with a byte-order-mark.
Then set BBEdit to save the file as UTF-8 without BOM instead of complaining that it did what you asked it to.
I apologize if that last post sounded like I was complaining about BBEdit, it wasn’t ment that way.
What I was trying to was blog my bone-headed mistep, so that Google would index it, and someone else, trying to find out why they broke Apache, would plug that error log message into Google, find my entry and say: “aha, Apache doesn’t like the byte-order-mark,” and either remove it using emacs, or as my correspondent suggested, select the right encoding in the first place.
