Last year Cyn and I went to Sunset Magazine’s annual home and garden expo to see the Glidehouse, a modernist modular home designed by architect Michelle Kaufmann (see photo.)
This year she’s demoing a new modular design, the Breezehouse, at the Sunset event. The new design has two prebuilt modules on either side of a breezeway capped by a butterfly roof. It’s an updated version of the old Eichler houses you find around the Bay Area.
These are nice homes, and the modular design gets the cost down to between $140 and $160 a square foot.
If we could find a urban lot, and can convince the permits bureaucrats that we’re not pouring a slab for a mobile home, I’d be tempted to get a mortgage for one of these.
