Maker Faire was grand. I’d love to share pictures, but the compact flash card in my camera has become unreadable. So no photos of Badgerbag’s laser engraved walking stick, the steam powered car, the Neverwas Haul, the full-sized Mousetrap, or the techno-playing mechagiraffe.
Thanks to Toxx’s suggestion, I found Data Rescue II, which was able to recover most of the lost data.

Here’s Toxx setting up data for the CO2 laser cutters at the Techshop display.

That CO2 laser personalized Badgerbag’s walking stick in a few seconds. I was tempted to have it zap my email address into the backside of my PowerBook.

I’ve been on a steampunk kick lately, so thought this steam-powered car was nifty.

The annual power tool drag races moved down from the City to Maker Faire. This was a crowd pleasing staged crash at the end of the day.
I would have loved to show you a photo of the loud and spooky Tesla Coil in the main hall, but the camera didn’t cooperate.
Oh, and I did find a HOWTO on recovering flash memory, using dd to make a copy of the drive’s contents, and setting a program loose on the file to look for the JPG headers. However, that didn’t work for me. So I went for the commercial solution. Data Rescue II isn’t cheap, but it worked.

There are lots of recovery/rescue apps out there for corrupted compact flash cards — might be worth it to give one a spin.
