Robert Asprin

Sad news from Kevin Standlee, who just flew out to Cincinatti for MARCON. Robert Asprin, author of all those pun laden MythAdventures books about Skeeve and his demonic friend Aahz, died Friday. Asprin was to be MARCON’s author guest of honor.

I’ll remember those books for Kelley Freas’ covers, which were as full of visual gags, as the books were full of puns.

ETA:, I’m thinking of the earlier editions with the Freas covers.

Uh… The covers of all the MythAdventures books I’ve ever seen were done by Seattle’s own Phil Foglio of Girl Genius fame.

There is a post on SFF.net about how Phil was found by the person who was to drive him to Marcon; he was slumped in a chair with an SF book in his hands. In a sense, that is dying with your boots on for an SF and Fantasy author.

Damn, my own mistake above Not ‘Phil was found’, but ‘Robert was found’.

    AAARRGGGHHH!!!

    > Cincinatti

    Columbus, actually.

    > Kelley Freas…Phil Foglio

Kelley did the cover of at least the first novel and maybe the second, as well as internal illustrations. Phil took over (and I think they did re-issues as well) from Kelley, and also went on to write and draw the adaptation of the first Myth book into comic book form.
