Books for NOLA

Instead of boxing up your surplus books and mailing them to the New Orleans Public Library, I’d suggest that you sell them at your local second hand store, through Amazon, eBay or Half.com; then take the money raised, and send it as a donation to the library.

Donating your books is a lovely idea, but storing, sorting, and selling donated books uses resources better used rebuilding their collections and facilities.

I googled for the costs of processing a gift book. They estimated $30 per book, which is in line with the $25 per book estimate I received from a university library in 1990.

This is a very good idea. I have gotten rid of many used cds books and other items on Half.com in particular. Thanks for the suggestion.
