Tonight’s Spicy Noodles gathering was fun. But it’s always fun to be in the company of smart people.

Since Paul Prescod, James Hong and Dave Winer were there, REST v. SOAP was discussed. There was a guy I hadn’t met before, Johathan (?) from Adobe, who explained if you connect to ‘choreographed’ Web Services, each of which was highly specialized and stateless, you can get around the state problem by managing state yourself. He said that’s the idea behind what Microsoft’s doing with BizTalk and “SLANG” (which I had not heard of before tonight.)

Joey De Ville, Canada’s Most Patriotic Accordian Player, favored the people of Palo Alto with a cover of AC/DC’s “She Shook Me All Night Long” as we clambered down University Avenue in search of an open coffee house.

The folks at the Apple Store didn’t know what to make of a small army with an accordian player coming into the Apple Store. Where, as fate would have it, my boss, his boss and most of the other managers in my group at work were hanging out after thier dinner.

Fortunately the staff recognized Doc, and all was well.

You can set up attributes at the folder level to control appearance, as well as access control by the client, and folders inherit attributes unless overridden.

I spent part of the afternoon (hey, it was raining) working through Dave Babbit and Dave Winer’s implementation of the Radio Driver for reading the XML feed published by Macromedia, and built one of my own. I learned quite a bit about how you handle XML tables in Frontier.

This aggregator reads the extended XML format of my Weblog. You get the full markup of the post, as well as the date stamp and title.

Frontier/Radio users know the drill, save the page, load the object, and subscribe.

There are a few modifications I’d like to make:

Add metadata to weblog XML feed that identifies the author, weblog name, copyright.

Add versioning to the feed and the driver. The driver should look at the version attribute of the feed and advise the user if they need to upgrade the driver.

Sign the posts, just in case.
