The Mavericks big wave contest was yesterday in Half Moon Bay. My friend Laura texted me an alert at 6 in the morning, but I couldn’t get away from the office. There are nice photos, however.
On January 10, Pete Cabrinha rode a 70 foot wave at Jaws on the North Shore of Maui. That was the biggest wave a human has ever surfed. And yes, that’s a huge wave. Update: Mavsurfer has a clip of Cabrinha’s ride. And get this, he’s 42 years old. Damn, that’s cool (when you’re 40.)

The Big Wave Surfing Contest at Mavericks is on for Friday the 27th. I’m flying up to Seattle tomorrow, so I’m going to miss this. [ Thanks Selkie Diver ]
