The Mavericks big wave contest was yesterday in Half Moon Bay. My friend Laura texted me an alert at 6 in the morning, but I couldn’t get away from the office. There are nice photos, however.
He loses the Kentucky Derby, at least.

On January 10, Pete Cabrinha rode a 70 foot wave at Jaws on the North Shore of Maui. That was the biggest wave a human has ever surfed. And yes, that’s a huge wave. Update: Mavsurfer has a clip of Cabrinha’s ride. And get this, he’s 42 years old. Damn, that’s cool (when you’re 40.)
